News:  Blanket Orange County  Gears Up to Collect 300 Blankets

Chapel Hill, NC (11-24-09) — Blanket Orange County Director, Jan Bolick, announces that the  6th annual blanket drive begins on December 1 and ends on December 21, the first day of winter.  This year, the goal is to collect 300 new or gently used blankets for The Interfaith Council (IFC).

Chris Moran, Executive Director of IFC says:   “Blanket Orange County has become an annual event that is greatly welcomed and appreciated by the Inter-Faith Council and our homeless residents who want to stay warm during the winter months.  Hundreds upon hundreds of blankets have been donated by friends of Blanket Orange County over the years that are used by residents at Community House and HomeStart. Volunteers and staff also provide blankets to unsheltered persons who  sleep outdoors when shelters are full  on cold winter nights. Your gifts of blankets are important and they make a huge difference in the lives of  homeless persons.”

The blanket drive will run from December 1 through December 21, 2009.

New and gently used blankets can be dropped off at:

  •  The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce on Estes Drive
  • The Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA on Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard
  • Meadowmont Club on Old Barn Lane

Cash donations, 100% of which are used to purchase new blankets should be made payable to Blanket Orange County  and mailed to:
