Most every organization can get big boosts in productivity, morale, customer loyalty and profitability by simply paying more attention to how they manage (or don’t manage) mistakes.

If you are interested in getting some of these boosts but aren’t sure how to “pay more attention”, you might start by asking yourself some questions.

Now – ask yourself questions. Exploratory Questions like:

  1. What kind of mistakes do I make?
  2. How safe do I feel sharing these with others?
  3. What kind of mistakes do other people in my organization make?
  4. Do I know about all of them?
  5. Really?
  6. If I don’t know about their mistakes, why is that?
  7. Regarding the mistakes in #1 and #3, what do they cost me and my organization?
  8. Am I/are we getting full “benefit” from these mistakes?
  9. Do I/we need to manage mistakes any differently so that we do get full “benefit”?

This isn’t a one-and-done set of questions.

Ask them of yourself over time. Several times.

This is about exploration and discovery.

And then hopefully – celebration.
