Happy Take Back Your Time Day

October 24, 2009 · Filed Under 2 Little Time · Comment

And Happy Birthday, Teresa!

I hope you like your present.

And I hope you take it back.

I hope all of you take it back.

Celebrate Take Back Your Time Day by taking the time to do something you’ve been wanting to do – even if it’s for only ten minutes.

In addition - if you typically rush around all day,

walk slower.

Drive slower.

Look at the trees swaying in the breeze against the Carolina blue sky.

Do something that brings you joy.

Smile.

Laugh.

Take time to enjoy your precious present.

Your time…take it back!

October 22, 2009 · Filed Under 2 Little Time · Comment

Have you decided how you will observe  Take Back Your Time Day?

Are you ready to enjoy your present?

A  while back, I read about a poll which revealed that 65% of people spend their leisure time doing things they would prefer not to do.

Do you find that sad?  And maddening?

Let’s face it…we all have some things we would prefer not to do.

Laundry and litter boxes come to mind.

But wouldn’t it be nice if we were spending MOST of our leisure time doing things we really WANT to do?

You like that idea?

What is it that you’d like to do?

Paint?   Tae Kwon Do?   Play the sax?   Yoga?   Eat lunch with your child at school?

Make a list of all those things you wish you had time to do.

Now choose one thing. Just one.    And work it in to your plan for Saturday.  Even if it’s just for 10 minutes.  Write it on your calendar.  Just like you would a doctor appointment or a meeting with your boss.

Now DO it.

In addition - if you typically rush around all day,

walk slower.

Drive slower.

Look at the trees swaying in the breeze against the Carolina blue sky.

Do something that brings you joy.

Smile.

Laugh.

Take time to enjoy your precious present.

Take It. It’s Yours.

October 21, 2009 · Filed Under 2 Little Time · 1 Comment

Take Back Your Time Day is on Saturday, October 24.

If you occasionally feel like you have 2 little time, use TBYT Day as a nudge.

If you frequently feel that way, use it as a shove!

Block some time on October 24.  Just ten minutes would be good.  An hour even better.  Or be bold and block off the whole day.

It’s yours.

Now what will you do with it?

Think of all the things for which and all the people for whom you wish had more time.

By the end of the day on Friday, decide what you will do to observe Take Back Your Time Day.

Yep – we’re asking for a commitment.

We wanna hear how you plan to celebrate Take Back Your Time Day!

Increase Your IQ by Ten Points

August 11, 2009 · Filed Under 2 Little Time, Be a Better Manager, Get 2 Goal · Comment

Just imagine if we could all increase our IQ’s by ten points!

We would get more done. Get it done faster. Make fewer mistakes. Wouldn’t have to do so many things over again. Have more time to do other things. Like breathe. A big boost to morale and productivity.

There is a VERY easy way to do it!

Just listen to this excerpt from a Business Class interview with Randy Dean, author of Taming the E-Mail Beast. Only 47 seconds long. Push the “play” button (far left on bottom of image below) to hear it.

That’s it? Just stop checking messages so much?

But how?

Are You Losing Your Marbles?

July 30, 2009 · Filed Under 2 Little Time · Comment

My friend and former colleague (UD 1996), Brooke Packard Blanchard, sent me this story. We don’t know the author. If you do, please let me know. I would love to give him or her the proper credit. The story may make you sad at first. But put the wise words to work and it will serve to boost morale and productivity.

*****

This conversation was heard on a ham radio. A gentleman was speaking with a smooth voice like he belonged in the broadcasting business. He was telling whomever he was talking with something about a thousand marbles.

“Well, Tom, it sure sounds like you’re busy with your job. I’m sure they pay you well but it’s a shame you have to be away from home and your family so much. Hard to believe a young fellow should have to work sixty or seventy hours a week to make ends meet.

“Too bad you missed your daughter’s dance recital. Let me tell you something Tom, something that has helped me keep a good perspective on my own priorities.

“You see, I sat down one day and did a little arithmetic. The average person lives about eighty years. Some live more and some live less, but on average, folks live about eighty years. I multiplied 80 times 52 and I came up with 4160, which is the number of Saturdays that the average person has in their entire lifetime.

“It took me until I was sixty old to think about all this in any detail Read more

EOM

July 28, 2009 · Filed Under 2 Little Time · Comment

This is a quick tip that will help you boost productivity and morale.

The productivity part is straight from Randall Dean, author of Taming the E-Mail Beast.

To save time on writing and reading e-mails, type your entire (but brief) message in the subject line, ending with “EOM” – abbreviation for “End Of Message”.

Here’s an example.

Subject: Sales meeting today is @3 @Ben & Jerry’s. EOM

The recipient never even has to open the e-mail to read it!

Saving time has a way of boosting morale. The same is true of having sales meetings at Ben & Jerry’s.

Here’s an excerpt featuring Randy Dean explaining how to best utilize EOM, taken from the full interview found below this clip:

One last thing – Randy shared many more tips during his Business Class interview with us. The entire 45 minute audio is available for download. There is no charge. Just provide your name and email address* below.

E-mail Sniff Test

July 14, 2009 · Filed Under 2 Little Time, Be a Better Manager · 1 Comment

Want to boost productivity and morale?

By using the simple strategy shared in Stop Sending E-Mails, you probably won’t actually stop sending e-mails. But you will reduce the number you send – resulting in saved time and improved relationships.

Here’s another way to do more of the same. Use Randy Dean’s “Sniff Test”. He told me about it during a recent Business Class interview. To hear his explanation …just push “Play” below.
