Have you lost power?
Note: If you’ve lost power, or never had any to begin with, how can you possibly make a difference? Why bother dreaming? Or trying to make a goal? Or even setting one? Some one or something will keep you from it anyway. Might as well forget about trying to make a difference in someone else’s life – much less your own.
PLEASE don’t listen to ANY of nonsense above!!! You have plenty of power. It might not be obvious. You may have to hunt around a bit. But it’s there somewhere. I hope this article will help you with search and discovery so that you find your power. And if you are a manager, I hope it will help you help others find theirs. A must for morale & productivity – yours and theirs.

One December morning - the house was colder than normal. The clocks were dead. Out the window, we saw trees sagging under a beautiful crystal-like layer of ice; power lines across the road beneath branches, limbs – even whole trees.
We learned from our battery operated radio that 90% of the homes in our town were without power. They said it would take 8 days to restore.
We went in search of breakfast and found only one restaurant open. It seemed the entire town was there – hungry and powerless. Read more
Make Your Goal Despite Holiday Distraction
Most of us can’t afford to throw up our hands with a “there’s always next year.”
Here’s how to push for productivity without spoiling all the fun.
Remember the Quote of the Week? It’s important to make your expectations clear.
If you talk about holiday traditions, decorate office space, plan an office party and say nothing more - the holidays are going to stay front and center – productivity in the background. To prevent this, find extra ways to remind and reinforce people about business goals for the month.
Here are some ways to do this. Read more
Watch any football this weekend?
What if your favorite football team had gone out on the field with no plays or positions?
The ball would have been snapped and everyone might have gone out for a pass. Or they might have just stood there waiting for someone else to run or pass the ball.
What if there had been no yard lines or goalposts or scoreboard?
The players would have run all over the field – maybe even in different directions – not sure where they were going or if they ever got there. The coaches would have gone crazy. And most fans would have lost interest and stopped watching.
With no plan, the same things happen in business. Everyone runs around or just stands there. No one sure where they are going – or if they ever get there.
To reduce the frantic pace of business AND improve results – write a business plan. It doesn’t have to be pages and pages with charts and graphs. Just a page will do as long as it makes the goal(s) and roles clear.
The time you spend on this will save tons of time because there’s a greater chance that everyone will head toward the same goal post.
And it’s nice to know that if someone has to come out of the game for any reason – it’s okay – because everyone knows the plays.

Clean Off Your Desk Day
Clean Off Your Desk Day isn’t until January, but at my husband’s office, they’re celebrating it today.
They are switching from selling football to selling basketball, so now is a good time to clear the decks, shift gears and re-focus on new goals and strategies. A wise performance management strategy that is sure to boost productivity.
A clean desk is also a great idea for anyone who is trying to KISS.
So I’m celebrating too – tomorrow.

How to Handle “Scary Turns” on the Way to Goal

How to “Cross a Bridge” Between You and Your Goal
All kinds of things can stand between us and the accomplishment of our goals. We have little control – actually no control – over these obstacles. All we can control is how we deal with them.
Here’s a story (I was told it’s true) about a creative approach to dealing with an obstacle – an actual bridge – that was standing in the way of goal.
There’s a small Mexican town called Sabinas, situated on the slopes of the Sierra Madres with the Salado River running through. A few concrete dams were built across the river, serving as bridges to Monterrey and other cities.
On a September day in 1960, there was heavy rain and the river rose two feet above the dam. Trucks and buses could still make it across the 100 yard stretch, but cars had a hard time.
As drivers slowly eased into the current attempting to cross the bridge, Carlos and Pedro stood by with their tow trucks ready to sell their services. They even made bets on how far each car would make it before stalling. When a car did stall, Carlos and Pedro went to their rescue – at a very high price.
Along came a family in a 1955 Chevrolet wagon – a mother, a father and three kids, all anxious to return to the states. Carlos offered to tow them across for 1500 pesos – half the amount of cash the family had for the rest of their trip.
As Mom and Dad discussed the fee, they watched several drivers stall out while crossing the bridge. Then they watched a bus charge across with no problem.
Little Hops
In a recent survey, readers shared the obstacles that get in the way of making their goals.
Things like time, energy, money, courage and other commitments.
That’s a big enough list to make most of us give up before we even begin.
