Quote of the Week: On Battles & Kindness

Be kinder than necessary for everyone is facing some sort of battle.

This week’s quote helps to remind us that when a person interrupts,  or pushes ahead in line or ignores us in the hallway or whatever it is that rubs us the wrong way or ticks us off - it’s probably not about us.   And whatever it IS about, could be a good reason for the rest of us to try our best to do business with heart. Special Feature: Inspired by Eve Carson

Eve Carson was President of her high school in Athens, Georgia.  She was valedictorian of her class.

She went to UNC Chapel Hill as a Morehead Scholar, was Phi Beta Kappa and selected as a North Carolina Fellow.    She spent her summers studying and volunteering in Wyoming, Ecuador and Egypt.  She was President of the Student Body during her senior year.

She always had time for people.  Loved to have dance parties.   Looked for the good in everything and everyone.  Fun, fun loving and loved by so many.

With all of these (plus many more) activities, she still had a 3.9 GPA and was scheduled to graduate  in May 2008 with highest distinction in biology and political science.

Two months prior to graduation, she was gunned down in what police called a random act of violence. Read more

Whole Foods Does Business with Heart

expectant mothers

When I saw this sign (actually two of them) in front of the Chapel Hill, NC store, I smiled and thought, “Wow!  How cool!”

It was the last thing I would have expected when I was expecting.

It’s a good thing I’m not because both spaces were occupied.

When checking out, I asked the cashier about it.  He seemed proud.  Said expectant mothers are very appreciative.  It seems like the signs boost the morale of insiders and outsiders, expectant or not.

Such a nice and clever touch.  A special way to show care and concern and connect with customers.   A little extra that  makes every day ordinary service  extraordinary.

Thanks again* to Whole Foods for doing business with heart.
