10 Ways to Improve the World

10 by 10 on Tuesdays

This week’s quick list* is a companion piece to our Quote of the Week on Improving the World

So much to do.  So much we could do.  Where do we start?  When the weight of the world is on our shoulders, we often do nothing or go round in circles.

Or we think the problem is so big and our influence so small that whatever we may do will make no difference. And so – we do nothing.

The weight of the world keeps us from doing anything.  Except perhaps beating ourselves up.

This week’s quote reminds us that we may be making it too difficult.  That we really don’t need to wait another moment before starting to improve the world – for others and ourselves.

Here are 10 things we can do now to improve the world.  Ways to boost morale and productivity so that we and those around us can feel more on top of the world instead of feeling weighed down by it. Read more

Quote of the Week for Heart Month

February is American Heart Month, declared as a reminder to take care of the health of our hearts.  Three primary ways to do this:  diet, exercise, regular medical check-ups and stress management.

With the latter in mind, we selected an ancient Hawaiian huna (or “secret”) of life as our Leadership Quote of the Week: Energy flows where attention goes.

What are you paying attention to? Read more

Welcome Miami Fans

We were so impressed with the show of class at Notre Dame in 2006, that we wanted to spread the word. We also wanted to make it easy for businesses to implement and so we created a few game day tools for businesses. One of them – ready-to-go welcome signs.

This weekend, Carolina plays the University of Miami.

We suggest that businesses in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area post welcoming signs in the door, windows and/or counter tops. The one we’ve created looks like this: Read more

Wisdom from Steve Jobs

· Filed Under Be a Better Manager, Get 2 Goal · Comment

To family, friends and colleagues of Steve Jobs…

we are so sorry for your loss and hope you will soon find peace in the many fond memories.

He gave so much to the world while he was here on this earth….

And has left so much behind.

Including much wisdom.

This quote came from Mark Young, owner of  BabyBoomerTalkOnline, who sends out an inspirational quote each day. Here is the one he sent today:

“For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself:

‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something…almost everything-all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure-these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.

Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.”

Steve Jobs

He included a link to Steve Jobs commencement speech at Stanford University in 2005.  And so I clicked on it.  And watched.  For 14 minutes.  Mesmerized.  An unbelievable story.

Some of which I knew.  But…

…let’s just say it helped me connect a few dots.

I hope you’ll watch it (below). Read more

April 28 is Pay It Forward Day

Thank you to Jim Enright who just reminded me with his monthly mailer that Thursday, April 28 is International Pay It Forward Day.

Jim does a really good job with this mailer.  It’s simple.  Printed front and back on yellow 8 1/2 X 11 card stock – cut in half.  In this small amount of space, Jim reminds us of the movie Pay It Forward, shares three lovely quotes,  three great pay it forward stories and a gentle reminder that he is a  mortgage strategist in Chapel Hill, NC, always willing to help  us, our family and friends with home financing.  He even makes a special offer  of free appraisal (up to $400 credit at closing)  which we can’t use  right now but he gave me permission to forward it to you.

So here you go –  if you or someone you know is buying or re-financing, be sure to contact Jim by May 15.

Visit:  www.MortgageChoice.com or contact Jim at 919-929-6116, extension 236 or   Jim@TheMortgageStrategist.com.

Meanwhile – would you like to celebrate International Pay It Forward Day?

A good way to start would be to visit or re-visit the movie in which a teacher (played by Kevin Spacey) gives his class an assignment:  Read more
