Don’t You Love It?

blue heartIn this rough, tough, seemingly heartless, bottom-line oriented world of strategizing for survival through takeovers, layoffs and budget cuts, don’t you love it when people do business with heart?

They seem to love their work. They get the job done. They really care. They make you feel good. They warm your heart doing business with heart.

Below are a few classic stories about doing business with heart.  I share them with 3 hopes.

Hope #1  is  that you will read and share them with co-workers, family members and friends.

Hope #2 is thayou will share some stories of your own - and encourage others to do the same.

By the way – if you hold a regular meetings of any kind - sharing heart stories can be a great addition to your agenda.  It sets a positive mood for the meeting and beyond.  Get details for Ready-2-Go Meeting segment.

Hope #3  is that  you will join me in thanking people around you who do business with heart.  You can do this verbally or with a handwritten note or with one of our Heart Cards

Spreading the word and spreading appreciation for doing business with heart is so very important now more than ever.  Because the more people do business with heart….the more people will do business with heart.     And as more people do business with heart…even more people will do business with heart.

Warming hearts everywhere by doing business with heart.

Okay – it’s story time. Here are a few classic examples of people doing business with heart.  Read more

“Zero Waste” Goal at McDonalds

November 1, 2009 · Filed Under Good & Green · Comment

Just returned from London where I saw this snippet in The London Evening Standard:

“McDonalds has set up a “zero waste” programme at 25 London restaurants so no rubbish is sent to landfill sites.  The fast food giant says any waste that cannot be recycles is taken to an incinerator that converts it into electricity.  The chain hopes to roll out the scheme to all its 160 London restaurants. ”

Impressive.

Collecting Dirt

Lots of people like to collect dirt about their co-workers and bosses.

I hate when I hear that stuff.  Most of  it’s garbage anyway.  And it’s a good indication that morale and productivity are in the dump.

What about collecting a different kind of dirt – the kind you get when you  keep the real garbage out of the real dump?

Not many businesses do this because of the hassle.  But this little guy (looks a bit like Darth Vader doesn’t it?) can easily tuck into a corner somewhere.

Nothing to build. It just sits on the dirt and the worms will come. Read more

Google Rewards for Going Green

June 24, 2009 · Filed Under Good & Green · 1 Comment

Google is making big strides towards going green. They have instituted many different programs* to reduce their carbon footprint, but one in particular really stands out to me: Google’s support of a Self-Powered Commuter Program.

This program encourages Google’s employees to reduce their personal greenhouse gas emissions by getting to work under their own power, be it walking, riding a bike, or even rollerblading. Those who participate in this program earn points, which can then be put towards a donation from Google to any charity of their choice. Google will donate $100 for every 20 days of self-powered transportation.

A great idea that helps the environment and employee health at the same time. And, it’s one that any company, big or small, can institute.

Why stop there? Read more
