Are you gobbling up morale & productivity?

November 27, 2009 · Filed Under Be a Better Manager · Comment

It’s hard not to nibble at it every now and then.  Maybe you’ve said or done the wrong thing from time to time.  Perhaps hurt someone’s feelings.  Yes.  I know you didn’t mean to do it.

And what about recently?  What manager hasn’t HAD to do something that has taken a bite out of morale and productivity?

Hopefully you’ve been able to replenish it by doing things like showing concern and appreciation for your team members.

But some managers don’t do that.  Their nibbles turn to bites.  And then bigger bites.  Until they have gobbled up all the morale and productivity,  often chasing their team members away.

You might be smack dab in the middle of doing this without even realizing it.  Matt didn’t.  He still hasn’t figured it out.

One day I hope he will learn from it.  Meanwhile – why don’t we?

Thanksgiving Inventory

I’ve been working on my own Thanksgiving inventory and the list is long.    At the top of the list are all the people on “my team”.

thanksgiving pilgrimsThe people who help make Business Class “happen”.  The people who help provide all the great resources we provide for our clients.   The resources we currently provide and those on the drawing board.  And the people who work with us on community service projects.  And the people who take care of things in other parts of our lives while we focus on the business side.

It’s a great team.  They are professional, productive and fun.  And they really care about what they do and doing it well.

Here is a seasonally appropriate agenda item for the beginning or end of any team meeting you are leading this week.

It’s not a new idea.  But it’s good.  And yes – people will roll their eyes.  That’s okay.  The results are good.  Good boosts to morale and productivity.
