Kudos to Ray Austin at Western Auto – from Mick Mixon

In preparation for and celebration of National Boss Day, here’s a great boss story, another great one shared by Mick Mixon during a Business Class interview.

When Mick was 15, he worked at Western Auto.

There was a recliner in the store for sale.  One day, when there was no one in the store, Mick sat down in the chair.  Assistant Manager, Ray Austin, said a sentence Mick says he will never forget – “ get up”.

Mick’s interpretation and message to workers everywhere.  When you are at work, do something.   Straighten the shelves.   Restock merchandise.  Do something.  Don’t wait to be told.

And Mick’s message to managers is similar  to Tom Lutz’ message:  Dare to Lead.

Listen to Mick tell the story right here:
